What the research addresses
The habitable zone describes stellar distances where surface liquid water could be possible under appropriate conditions. Atmospheres, stellar radiation and planetary properties still matter. Ocean worlds can also motivate questions about environments below their surfaces.
What this does not establish
A planet in this zone is not necessarily habitable, inhabited or Earth-like. The concept constrains one part of a larger investigation.
